Australia has slightly more women than men. It comes as no surprise that when you ask a woman if she thinks there is a lack of available men, you will often hear her say, “Yes!” Are you looking for a laid-back tradesman or a rich corporate millionaire? Or, perhaps you simply want a man who will be there when he says he will. The best route to take in your romantic journey is to join a dating service. Look for one that has an online site so you can get a feel for what they offer and always make sure they provide an obligation-free initial consultation.

We gathered data from across the country to learn more about the odds of dating. Read on to find out what we discovered.

Approximately 92% of the population is looking for or is in a heterosexual relationship. Whether that be casual dating, serious dating, a long-term relationship, or marriage(*1).

This is a positive statistic. If you are a heterosexual woman, the vast majority of men in Australia will share the same sexual orientation as you.

According to the UN’s data, Australia has 13.26 million men and 13.44 million women(*2).

That’s pretty balanced! 49% of the total population is male.

According to the ABS, 64.5% of the population are of ‘working age’(*3).

While the ‘working age’ is 15 and 64 years old, this data indicates the majority of Australians are of dating age.

Australia has approximately 6.73 million couples(*4).

We know that not all couples are male-female because 8% of the population are homosexual or have a different sexual orientation. Thus, there are around 3.096 million heterosexual men who are in couples.

There are more men than women dating until their late 20s. From 28 years of age and up, there are generally more women dating(*1).

Although there may be fewer men in the dating game, it does not mean that all the good men are taken. Some men casually date throughout their 20s and 30s. We have met many men who just weren’t interested in marriage until their 30s or 40s due to focusing on other aspects of their lives. We also have some incredible gentlemen who have previously married or had children and who are ready to enjoy dating again. Interestingly, the number of single-parent households with dependent children only accounts for 10% of the total population(*3).

Let’s Crunch Those Numbers

An approximate estimate of the number of single heterosexual men in Australia is 4.3 million, which equates to around 16% of the population. In Sydney, that would mean there are approximately 829,600 available men to date. In Melbourne there should be around 850,560.

• Look for dates in high-population areas. The highest population numbers across the country are in New South Wales and Victoria which places Sydney and Melbourne at the top of the list for finding a date(*3).
